TissuePatch – making a difference in Head and Neck surgeryMay 13, 2016
TissuePatch™ is famously useful as a dural sealant and for the prevention of air leaks during thoracic surgery. Yet one application of TissuePatch™ that has been slightly less high profile is its utility as a sealant to prevent postoperative leaks of blood and chyle in ENT and Head and Neck surgery; this despite having supportive clinical data from prestigious sources including the Royal London Hospital,
Recently clinicians at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, led by Mr Stuart Burrows, Consultant Otolaryngologist, Head and Neck/Thyroid Surgeon have been using TissuePatch™ in a range of procedures including neck dissections and laryngectomies. Feedback has been extremely positive, forming a useful reminder of the applicability of Tissuemed’s surgical sealant films in this discipline.
Commenting on his recent experience Mr Burrows said, ‘So far I have been pleased with TissuePatch™. It is easy to apply and manipulate. Early data suggests its use reduces inpatient stay following neck dissections and we have not had a post laryngectomy fistula in a patient we have used TissuePatch™ in to date. Initial use is very encouraging and I intend to use it further.’
